Quantitative Reasoning Support Specialists help guide students through epidemiological and biostatistical analyses. They assist with homework, problem-solving, and test preparation. Specialists tutor students individually to review epidemiological principles and statistical processes, solve problems, and review material in preparation for quizzes and tests. Additionally, they support the development of study skills and provide counsel on math and test anxiety, assisting students in developing good learning strategies and habits.Responsibilities+ Works 1 on 1 with students, providing ongoing Quantitative support. 40%+ Reports engagement and interaction of students served via additional academic support to OSA . 20%+ Participate in all pedagogical-related trainings in identified to support student sessions. 10%+ Works with OSA to both facilitate and service students in need of support/review sessions, as a results of being identified as “at risk” academically. 10%+ Meeting with Quantitative stakeholders, as well as OE staff to roll-out tutoring mechanisms for students in need of mathematic support. 10%+ Other 10%Minimum Qualifications+ The incumbent must hold a bachelor’s degree and at least one year of education in pursuit of either an MPH,. DrPH, or PhD,+ An “A” letter grade in the Quantitative portion of the MPH- REMA studio, or equivalent grade in a similar course. (e.g. Calculus, Intro. to Biostatistics, or Epidemiology)+ Respect for and interest in others’ academic development+ Strong listening and communication skills are essential, as is an ability to take on the role of collaborator.+ Consultants should be willing to workday, evening, and limited weekend hours, as well as actively participate in professional development activities.+ Previous experience consulting in tutoring centers, working with non-native English speakers is desirable.+ Time commitment: 15-hour per week commitment in addition to orientation and necessary training session(s). *Current students applying to this role, must be in good academic and disciplinary standing.Equal Opportunity Employer / Disability / VeteranColumbia University is committed to the hiring of qualified local residents.
