We are experts in treating back and neck pain. We work with referring physicians, including orthopedic surgeons, pain management and rehabilitation doctors, and chiropractors.
General Summary of Position: The PA will work under the direction of a surgeon, aiding with patient evaluation, including completion of patient histories, physical examinations, consultations, and assistance in the operating room.
This is a full-time position. Qualifications: Completion and graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program. 1 – 3 years operative spine experience preferred; the primary surgeon will provide training for recent graduates or those with limited spine experience. PA certification, Texas licensure. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care; skill in establishing and maintaining effective, professional, concierge type relationship with patients, medical staff, and the public. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations, high emotional intelligence. Ortho Surgery Experience allowed
Responsibilities: Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview and examination. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic studies. Performs preventative health assessments, screening, and patient care. Assists with spinal procedures under the supervision of the primary surgeon. Assists in the OR by serving as first assistant during surgical procedures. Provides direct treatment and management of health conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources. Counsels and educates patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options and community resources. Participates in the coordination of discharge planning and acts as a resource for Case Management Triages patient phone calls. Prepares written prescription orders for drugs as defined in the written agreement between the PA and the supervising physician. Responsibilities will be split between seeing patients in the outpatient clinic, caring for inpatients and assisting in the operating room. On call duties are minimal.
