Grade 1 (Hourly)Position Description:The primary role of this assistant will be to provide support to the Kornhauser Health Sciences Library (KHSL) clinical services faculty and outreach program. Expectations include assisting in patron requests and delivery of articles and books, coordinating communication, staffing, and documentation for outreach activities, updating online pages, assisting in creation, production, and updating of educational materials, and any other duties related to clerical support for clinical and outreach services.In addition to the above, the assistant may be asked to provide library services to patrons at the information and/or service desks. Will interpret library policies and procedures and address ready reference questions when reference staff are not available. Instruct patrons in the use of library resources including the catalog, request forms, databases, and other internet tools. Fulfill other duties related to providing library services to patrons.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide clerical support to clinical library services program, including updating online pages, delivery of articles and books, and assisting in creation and production of educational materials.Support librarians by addressing electronic ready reference and directional requests as needed.Assist with staffing, participation, data collection, and documentation for campus orientation fairs and community outreach events.Communicates with library personnel, patrons, other libraries and campus partners, external agencies, vendors, and community members as appropriate via phone, video conferencing and email regarding outreach opportunities and events.Manage KHSL’s travelling exhibit program by coordinating booking, shipping, supplemental displays, and installation, and communicating with the NLM Travelling Exhibits coordinator.Provide regularly scheduled in-person coverage at library service desks, and provide occasional backup coverage when needed for mornings, evenings, or weekends, up to a combined maximum of 15 hours/week. Responsibilities performed at desks include interpreting library policies and procedures when receiving and responding to patron questions and concerns; addressing ready reference questions when reference staff are not available; instructing patrons with accessing library databases and resources; making decisions regarding borrower eligibility, and fulfilling other duties related to providing in-person services.Preferred Qualifications Two years of college study in liberal arts, business, computer/information science or a related field and two years of related experience.Experience using health information databases.Knowledge about outreach initiatives and goals.Proficiency using MS Office suite of products, including Word, Excel, and TeamsProficiency with Endnote or other citation management softwareCompetencies Information and technology literacy- Able to read reference materials and obtain information. Able to operate various standard office machines.
